DESCRIPTION: EPW - Charles Frodsham, 27 South Molton St, London, rare "Time of Flight" artillery timer with box, dial upper register with 1/100-second increments, outer chapter with one-minute display in second increments, nickel-plated OF original case, silvered SS dial, wound via grip bar from back side, cylinder escapement, 6J, gilt mvt, no visible s#. Comes with its original Frodsham signed fitted leather box. This timer was originally sold for £30 and was identified as a "Time of Flight instrument," a Frodsham advertisement illustrating the piece and listing its attributes is reproduced on page 421 of Vaudrey Mercer's "The Frodshams." CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good start/stop function, reset function is inconsistent and most often returns center sweep hand to incorrect positions, overhaul needed for reset function, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered spots and smudges to plate surfaces; dial with sizable portion of finish loss within left side of 1/100-second-register, portion of finish loss at perimeter near 10-seconds, some scattered additional small spots and fine scratches; excellent hands; case shows little wear, profuse fine to micro-fine scratches, no dents, some small nicks; bow pivots freely, push shows little wear; good glass crystal; box shows medium wear, scratches and scuffs to finish, some soiling to interior liner.
